Sherwin Williams Sea Salt and Rainwashed: Prettiest Colors For Your Home!

Love this post? Share it! :)

Don’t you hate buying paint and getting home and wishing you’d chosen another color?

Yep. Me too.

But I guarantee that’s not going to happen this time because, hands down, Sherwin Williams Rainwashed and Sea Salt are two of the prettiest, softest colors that never fail to disappoint.

I’m obsessed with these colors. In fact, three of my rooms are painted these colors:

Hopefully, stumbling upon these pics will help you to make a decision to use them, because they’re that fabulous!

Sherwin Williams Rainwashed

Rainwashed is probably my most favorite color of all times. When we moved into this old 1973 house in 2010, I couldn’t envision what I wanted my bedroom to look like. Our old bedroom was a soft buttery yellow with deep red accents. A little too “warm” for my taste in this “new” old house. Instead, I wanted something cool, soft, and felt like an oasis when I walked in! This is what my bedroom looked liked prior to its total overhaul, funky 70’s quilted drapes and all!

The wallpaper needed to come down first. That was a complete nightmare! I wouldn’t wish wallpaper on my worse enemy! (Well…actually, that could be satisfying, but I digress….LOL). We used an amazing wallpaper steamer that I bought from Amazon and it worked really well to pull down the wallpaper. But the wallpaper left a bunch of sticky glue

AFTER!

Once the wallpaper was gone…once I added the DIY crown molding…what resulted was this soft, prettiness! This is Sherwin Williams Rainwashed. AH-MAY-ZING…… What’s crazy is that in the years since moving in, not once have I ever felt like re-painting over the Rainwashed. Other rooms in my hous, however, have been painted over at last once or twice. But not this room. The color is too divine!

Here’s another shot of Rainwashed in my master bedroom. Isn’t it such a light shade of turquoise blue-green? Everything you see in the image below was thrifted or made my hand!

I had found this frame at the thrift store and figured out how to frame fabric with a picture frame. I love how it looks on my master bedroom wall with the Rainwashed.

Psst! Check out how I used Sherwin Williams Abalone Shell in my family room!

It’s funny, but when you look at it on a color card, it looks nothing like what it does on your walls, depending on the time of day. It’s like the magician of paint colors. According to this swatch, it’s in the green family, but sorry–my walls say something different!

When I walk into my bedroom, it feels like an oasis!

I installed the crown molding myself (I wrote a 52-page step-by-step guide on how to put up your own crown molding like a novice. Download a copy of the ebook).

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt

Sherwin Williams Sea Salt is another paint color that is a bit of a magician when on the walls.

This is what my master bathroom looked like when we moved in. It was a hot mess. But I knew that Sherwin Williams Sea Salt would look amazing in this room. It has a calming effect and looks good with shades of gray and white. Here’s what my master bathroom looked like before. In this room, it actually does look greenish:

What do you think? It looks like a very light seafoam color. Excuse the horrible pics :). These are old cell phone pics!

As much as I loved Sherwin Williams Sea Salt, later I wanted a change for my bathroom.

So I’ve since done a master bathroom makeover and it now looks like this!

Anyhow, back to my foyer….

In my foyer, Sherwin Williams Sea Salt looks more light-bluish/turquoise in the afternoon sun!

In my foyer (click here to watch how I touched up the Sea Salt for an entryway refresh makeover), it sometimes looks a shade of blue, depending on the light.  The color is very soothing and I can’t believe I ever chose a depressing, dark yellow.

Never again!

I love how fresh Sea Salt feels when I walk in! And what’s crazy is that when readers send me pictures of their house, showing off their projects to me, the minute I see Sea Salt on their walls, I’m like, “I know that paint color!”

Worried?

You probably found this blog post because you’re researching Rainwashed or Sea Salt. Don’t worry. They’re great colors that make the walls feel airy and pretty. Sometimes they look greenish. Sometimes they look blue. Maybe turquoise. And sometimes you do feel nervous when you’re about to paint and you’re not quite sure what you’re going to get. But I love these colors so much; they never disappoint.

Even my kids love them ;).

Sherwin Williams Abalone Shell and City Loft

I absolutely love Sherwin Williams paint colors! I recently completed a family room refresh and I used Sherwin Williams Abalone Shell as a blush pink accent wall, and the rest of the walls are a gorgeous Sherwin Williams City Loft, which complements it so well! Sherwin Williams Window Pane

I can’t help but mention, I also love Sherwin Williams Window Pane, which is one color lighter on the same color card as Rainwashed (see above). It’s also a very turquoise paint color. I have used it in my reading room, and it’s just as beautiful and soft. And yes, that was a baby on my back. LOL

I love your room makeovers, and this is no exception. Even the ones I’ve seen before are fun to look at again. You’re a magician, Serena. Happy holidays.

    Hi,
Love your blog! Thank you for sharing your inspirations with us. I went in a different direction with Rainwashed. I decided to paint the spare bedrooms dressers. I chose First Star a very light grey for the walls and white trim. What I’m debating is whether I want to distress the furniture. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Kim

  3. I’m trying to get a greenish/Gray for my bathroom. We have one window in the shower but not much natural light. Do you think Sea Salt will look more green or blue with artificial lighting? Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated. I was also considering Comfort Gray or Rainwashed. Thanks for your great information.

    1. Hi, Victoria! It’s really hard to tell what it will look like by artificial lighting. I would recommend you go to Sherwin Williams and get one of those $5.00 sample containers and paint a piece of poster board or a section of your wall and see how you like it! In my bathroom, he definitely felt more greenish. We also have just one small window and mostly just the light from the vanity. However it looks, it’s a gorgeous, soothing color! I think you’ll love it!

      1. Update on my bathroom. I bought some samples of SW Sea Salt, Rainwashed, and Oyster Bay. We ended up going with Sea Salt and it was the perfect choice! It does change depending on the light from day to night but always looks soothing and calm. Thank you so much for your advice & posts.

  4. Where can I find that comforter? I love it!

  5. Would this Rainwash. Go well with a cream jay yellowish floral comforter. Thr flowers are pink and red, blue green flowers

    1. I think it would! Rainwashed goes with many colors and is a great backdrop for floral comforters. Rainwashed feels like a very “feminine” soft color, so other feminine soft colors and patterns would make a great mix. 🙂

  6. Hi – love all the work you’ve done. What color is the lilac color that you repainted from the sea salt?

  7. I love these colors. They look great in your house. And hooray for being a baby-wearing and home-renovating warrior! What color is your bathroom purple? I tried a couple and settled on SW “Grayish” but I think it looks terrible and way too pink.

  8. Love your pics. Found your blog while looking for info on Sea Salt and now that I’ve used it I thought I’d give my insight about it. When we bought our house it was painted entirely in construction beige. We knew this needed to change. Getting my husband and I to agree on colors was a nightmare. Our first room to agree on was our entrance since it is a two story entrance that extends into the living room and the upstairs catwalk. We both agreed on Sea Salt. We have large windows in the living room so the color, during the day takes on a bluish tint. The entrance and up the stairs, against the white wainscot shows more of the green, the catwalk and the dinette connecting wall to the living room is this amazing grayish blue hue. I had read this was the chameleon of colors and it sure is. We love it but now we had to decide what would match on the back wall of the dinette and through the kitchen and the winner was Mellow Coral and it all just blended so well together. In the dinette, depending on the lighting the Mellow Coral reflects off the Sea Salt. Our dining room is off the entrance and connects to the kitchen. The dining room also has wainscot so that room we went with a blue. We used Aleutian. Depending on the light it plays off a bluish gray tint, but definitely favors the blue. These colors may seem crazy together but the Sea Salt is such a neutral color you can blend many colors with it. All of them we used an eggshell base and 2 coats. Now my master bedroom went into a completely different direction. We have very heavy, dark brown bedroom furniture. Our room was always painted in a deep green. The furniture seemed to blend into the paint and it lost its beauty. This time we went with SW Afternoon. It is a bright yellow but it gives our furniture an amazing rich look. The only thing I might have changed was that I used a satin finish and it may not have come out so shiny had I used an eggshell. Moral of my story, don’t be afraid to play with colors. We used the Sea Salt as our base and chose our colors to blend with it. I also recommend that you purchase samples and paint samples on poster board or pieces of sheet rock and move these samples around as the light in the room changes. Non of the colors we chose matched the chips we brought home. But I had painted samples all over the house and continued to move them around until we both agreed on what we wanted. Good luck to anyone who is looking to paint one room or a variety of rooms. Make sure you are 100% sure the colors you choose are colors you love. You’ll be looking at that color for quite some time.

    1. Great tips, Patty! Sea Salt is a beautiful color, but you’re right, it does change colors depending on the light. I think it looks more turquoise in my entryway. I love it! Thanks for commenting! (P.S. I’ll be updating this post soon with some great color options that will go well with Sea Salt!).

  9. Hi Serena!I am glad that fund your blog! Want to paint my house in sea salt. It is brand new house with open to above entranse and living room(18foot ceilings).
Did paint some areas and sea salt looks greenish, wanted little more grey:(. I have lots of windows, lots of natural light. White oak floors, stained mapple railings and white kitchen with grey quarts tops
    What do you think?
    Thank you!
