One of my favorite moments is to pull out my crafting materials…turn on some Golden Girls or Reba on Hulu…and get to craftin’. Whether it’s a lazy Saturday afternoon or those few magical hours of silence when the kids are all in school and I have a reprieve from parental responsibility, those hours of crafting are truly a joy.

There’s nothing cozier than listening to the comforting sounds of 90’s sitcoms over the soft hum of a sewing machine or the ka-clunk, ka-clunk, ka-clunk of a stapler as I create (what I hope) will be a something of a masterpiece. Heck–sometimes it’s not a masterpiece but something I am completely stoked to have made with my own two hands!

Crafting is like therapy. With hot tea by my side and my creativity free to run wild, I’m at my happiest! I don’t need a randomized study to tell me that. There is a calmness you feel when you’re free to explore a project, and excitement when what you made actually turns out! There’s nothing like it in the world.

So in today’s post, I’m going to review with you 10 crafting projects that you can try for yourself. Go grab your tablet (make this DIY tablet holder for your wall to keep the tablet off the table while crafting), grab your crafting tools and materials, fill your tea or coffee cup, and let’s get craftin’! And the fact that it’s Mother’s Day, why not just spend your Mother’s Day crafting? 🙂

10 Crafting Projects to Do While Bringing on Hulu

Before we jump into the crafting projects, let’s talk supplies. For the projects below, I used my favorite Arrow Fastener tools. But you’ll also need some of these common crafting supplies for your DIY toolbox:

Backyard Bean Bag Toss

Lately, I have been working on prettying up my backyard during my outdoor overhaul makeover challenge. Now that I’ve got a DIY fire pit, and the patio is looking good, I am ready to pull these backyard bean bag tosses out for the family to play!

Metal Garden Planters

During the fall, these mums needed a new planter. What better way to make some cool planters than with metal. The best thing is that they slide right over the store-bought plastic ones, so no need to actually transplant them. Just make the planters to fit over the existing store-bought cheap ones!

Framed Fabric Wall Art

Let’s face it–decorating your walls can be expensive. But when you’ve got an old frame, some gorgeous fabric, and a stapler (or spray adhesive), you can dress your walls for not much money. Plus, you can bet that no one else owns wall art like this!

Reupholstered Bench

I had found this $25 bench at an estate sale and it sat in my basement and garage for years. If you find something great from the thrift store or garage sale, with the right fabric and tools, you can totally transform it! I love the modern update to this bench!

If you don’t know how to sew but have always wanted to make your own custom shower curtain, then you’ve got to try this no-sew shower curtain. I love how the lavender in the fabric compliments the lavender walls!

Use a jigsaw and a power drill to create this “FAMILY” light up wall art sign for your home!

DIY Craft Apron

When you’re craftin’, keep all your materials nearby in this DIY craft apron. It’s much easier than walking around trying to find where you put your scissors and pens. 🙂

Wall-mounted Christmas Tree

When the holiday seasons come around and space is limited, make this DIY wooden wall-mounted Christmas tree to hang on your wall.

Vintage Chair Makeover

I absolutely adore this vintage chair makeover! Find a small chair or stool from the thrift store, some pretty fabric, and update it. Don’t feel you’ve got to paint the wood. Sometimes, just a light refresh is enough!

I have a couple of kitchen bar stools to recover and fix. I am planning on using a stapler to apply the material and some glue or glue gun to apply some other parts that need to be replaced also.

  3. I definitely want to try to make the bean bag toss. I have little ones so this is perfect for them. But I just saved your DIY Firepit post as well. Also I absolutely love how your backyard turned out! 👏🏽👏🏽

I have a dining room chair thst I kept from an old set. It’s really comfy and the wood is pretty. I want to reupholster the seat so a staple and glue gun would come in pretty. I may want to even get creative and paint some of the wood. Depends on the material I get!

  6. Oh I can’t wait to look for a bench at yard sales this summer! Yours turned out fabulous!
Most people just discard items that have cloth, not knowing what a gem they can be. I love your blog, and your fb page!

Ps. That fire pit sitting area was off the chart! 💙

  7. Ok, I’m inspired.. I’m going to begin my first “official” project since I moved back in with my mother 18 months ago. Starting off simple, small and utilitarian. I’ll be revamping the shoe shelf my dad whipped up 15 years ago that spent most of its life hidden in a dark hallway closet. All I’ll need is some furniture paint, four 3″ decorative feet/risers I purchased from Amazon a couple weeks ago to raise it off the ground/make it moveable, a power drill to screw the feet in and a whole lotta self determination. Not having a “perfect-down-to-the-tiniest-minute-detail” picture of how I want it to look is the WORST excuse to not at least clean it, paint it and get the risers attached. It’s time I stopped worrying and started DOING. Wish a master procrastinator some luck!

  8. This has been the craziest school year I’ve had in 24 years. I can’t wait for summer so I can finally start working on some great projects I have lined up! You are the best inspiration!

I love the lighted wall sign! The wheels are turning for a word and place to put it… I already have the lights. I really need a glue gun, mine is a dinosaur. Happy Mothers Day.
