One of my favorite moments is to pull out my crafting materials…turn on some Golden Girls or Reba on Hulu…and get to craftin’. Whether it’s a lazy Saturday afternoon or those few magical hours of silence when the kids are all in school and I have a reprieve from parental responsibility, those hours of crafting are truly a joy.

There’s nothing cozier than listening to the comforting sounds of 90’s sitcoms over the soft hum of a sewing machine or the ka-clunk, ka-clunk, ka-clunk of a stapler as I create (what I hope) will be a something of a masterpiece. Heck–sometimes it’s not a masterpiece but something I am completely stoked to have made with my own two hands!

Crafting is like therapy. With hot tea by my side and my creativity free to run wild, I’m at my happiest! I don’t need a randomized study to tell me that. There is a calmness you feel when you’re free to explore a project, and excitement when what you made actually turns out! There’s nothing like it in the world.

So in today’s post, I’m going to review with you 10 crafting projects that you can try for yourself. Go grab your tablet (make this DIY tablet holder for your wall to keep the tablet off the table while crafting), grab your crafting tools and materials, fill your tea or coffee cup, and let’s get craftin’! And the fact that it’s Mother’s Day, why not just spend your Mother’s Day crafting? 🙂

10 Crafting Projects to Do While Bringing on Hulu

Before we jump into the crafting projects, let’s talk supplies. For the projects below, I used my favorite Arrow Fastener tools. But you’ll also need some of these common crafting supplies for your DIY toolbox:

Backyard Bean Bag Toss

Lately, I have been working on prettying up my backyard during my outdoor overhaul makeover challenge. Now that I’ve got a DIY fire pit, and the patio is looking good, I am ready to pull these backyard bean bag tosses out for the family to play!

Metal Garden Planters

During the fall, these mums needed a new planter. What better way to make some cool planters than with metal. The best thing is that they slide right over the store-bought plastic ones, so no need to actually transplant them. Just make the planters to fit over the existing store-bought cheap ones!

Framed Fabric Wall Art

Let’s face it–decorating your walls can be expensive. But when you’ve got an old frame, some gorgeous fabric, and a stapler (or spray adhesive), you can dress your walls for not much money. Plus, you can bet that no one else owns wall art like this!

Reupholstered Bench

I had found this $25 bench at an estate sale and it sat in my basement and garage for years. If you find something great from the thrift store or garage sale, with the right fabric and tools, you can totally transform it! I love the modern update to this bench!

If you don’t know how to sew but have always wanted to make your own custom shower curtain, then you’ve got to try this no-sew shower curtain. I love how the lavender in the fabric compliments the lavender walls!

When you’re craftin’, keep all your materials nearby in this DIY craft apron. It’s much easier than walking around trying to find where you put your scissors and pens. 🙂

Vintage Chair Makeover

I absolutely adore this vintage chair makeover! Find a small chair or stool from the thrift store, some pretty fabric, and update it. Don’t feel you’ve got to paint the wood. Sometimes, just a light refresh is enough!

  1. Oh man! I need a new glue gun! I’m always doing little craft projects and I love listening to podcasts while doing it! I love all you craft ideas! I may give the craft apron a try! Thanks for the giveaway!

  2. I need to learn how to upholster. I bought some tufted tub/barrel club chairs (don’t know what they’re called tbh) years ago and I’ve come so close to throwing them away, but I know I have it in me to transform them. I just don’t know where to start. I tried reupholstering once and it was a total fail. It’s definitely on my to-do list.
