Vintage furniture is HOT. Maybe it takes a special person to appreciate vintage furniture. Someone with a trained eye for quality. I can’t say I am trained, or qualified in antiques, but I know good shyt when I see it. And today, I saw this piece and knew I had to have it:
It almost didn’t make it home with me, if I had listened to my husband. (I think I have lost all “cool” points with him because of my obsession with all things thrifty). I had called him on the phone while at the thrift store, and had even taken a picture of it to send home, with an excited little caption: “I want it!!”
He was not amused, or interested in the idea of me bringing home YET ANOTHER “treasure.”
You see, my husband hates my thrift store obsession. He would much prefer I go to a normal, regular ‘ole store and just buy something BRAND NEW. Oh, and I would–IF I were buying a mattress…..or underwear….or any intimates, for that matter!
Come on….There is beauty to be had in used furniture, and honestly, the quality is a gazillion times better.
A lot of people just don’t see the beauty in the furniture they have. They just want to rush out and buy new furniture that is “new and stylish” when right there in front of them, the furniture they have is beautiful, with just the right color or hardware. And they can’t see the good quality vintage furniture that they can pick up for FREE, or at a reduced price, via the thrift store or Craigslist.
These pieces are just waiting for creative minds to make them over. And, yes, I am one of those creative minds. Even if my husband can’t see that past the pile of furniture in the garage 🙂
