The Best Vintage Shop in North Carolina: Class and Trash Review

A couple weeks ago a reader sent me a picture of an awesome headboard she had found at a vintage shop in the Outer Banks, North Carolina called Class and Trash.

Funny, because I headed down there myself for a week-long vacation with 13 members of my family. And know that I couldn’t wait to check out this place!

While the kids and my family were doing Laser Tag, my mom and I snuck out and headed over to Class and Trash to check out the treasures we’d find.

I knew I wasn’t going to spend a lot of money, and we really didn’t have a bunch of space to buy something that would have to be hauled home.

But you know I can’t go on vacation to a new area and not go and see what amazing stuff there was to be discovered! It’s kind of been my M.O.: always check out local thrift shops for awesome finds!

When we walked up, I was immediately drawn by the vintage and rusty signs and metal plant stands displayed in front and throughout the store!

I think $58 was reasonable, although more than I would pay at my favorite thrift store. I was really drawn to this plant stand for my Outdoor Overhaul Patio Makeover Challenge but decided to not buy it. I’ve been on this new kick to only buy the things I absolutely love, and I wasn’t convinced that I loved the plant stand.

I decided that if I really want it, I’ll buy it on my way home in 2 days (if it’s still there!).

When we walked in, we were greeted by this rusty ‘ole display of awesome bottle cap removers and coat hooks!

Inside, I saw even more cute iron plant stands! This one was another favorite! I have

I’m not a dog lover, but I was really digging this (pitbull??) bottle opener for $4!

I decided to buy two of them–one for my patio and one for my kitchen! 🙂

There were so many awesome vintage signs, literally!

I really wanted them all. 🙂

They weren’t that expensive, around $58. But since I didn’t know exactly where I was going to put it, I decided to skip them. But I loved looking at them!

This reclaimed work bench was awesome! I’d love to have this in my workshop!

This bench was really cute. If it was made for the outdoors, it would be a great gardening bench!

This washtub was awesome! It was a little expensive for me, around $200, but wouldn’t this be cute in a garden?

I wanted some of these metal letters, but at $14 each, they were a little expensive. I would have paid for them, but I didn’t know what I wanted to spell! LOL I’d love to screw some of them to a board and put them up on the patio!

HELP!

What would you spell?

We’re leaving on Sunday and I still have time to buy some things!

I’m so glad that my reader clued me in to Class and Trash in the Outer Banks! This place is a treasure chest of awesomeness. If you’re ever vacationing here in North Carolina, you should definitely make it a priority on your “must see!” list!

We’ll be headed back in 2 days, so I’ve got a day to think about something I want to buy!

So what do you like the most the stuff you’ve seen? What should I buy before I leave the Outer Banks?

    1. Hey, Christina! YAY! Glad you’re enjoying the tools! I looked online and actually found an arbor (although not vintage and elaborate) for $50. I am going to drive there tomorrow to pick it up! And I’m with you–sounds like a Uhaul is in order! I actually wanted to do a post about what to do if you find things while you’re away on vacation or out of town! I think it might be helpful to share how to get things home!

  2. Those letters you wanted…why not just buy one that is the initial for your last name, and you could mount on the outside wall of your house either in the back or front? So much simpler than trying to think of something to spell.
That’s a great place though. I could spend hours in it.

    1. Ahhhh….great idea, Florence! I hadn’t thought of that. If I get to go back, I will definitely pick some up. I sooo wish I could go back!

  3. Loved seeing this store even though I live on the west coast. By-the-way, the wash tub is actually a baby bath, hence the oval shape. It sure would look great in a garden.

    1. Oh wow, Nina, really?? That’s so cool! I was wondering what it was. I was looking for a drain inside, but didn’t see any. That’s what my mom and I were saying–would look cute with flowers planted inside!

    Hi Sirena,

Haven’t touched base with you since I was in Baltimore for my birthday. Love, Love, Love Class and Trash!! Would have had a ball in there just looking though because you know my price radar would have been on. What a great place!! Maybe I’ll check them out when we make our annual beach trip in the fall.

    1. Sharon, how did you enjoy Baltimore? Did you find some great thrift stores and antique shops? There is a location up there that I keep wanting to check out, called Hampden. A friend says it’s a nice area. I keep meaning to take a “field trip” up there to check it out! I wish I would have remembered it so that I could have told you about it! Here’s a listing of those shops, if you’re ever in the area again!

  5. It looks awesome! Do they have an online store or site? Will they ship your purchase?
    Thanks

    1. Teri, unfortunately, they don’t! I did ask. I can’t even find a proper website for them!! Isn’t that crazy??

  6. I could use the garden entry things the white or the green.the words are not as popular as 2 years ago they
should be cheaper.looks like a cool place.saw a lot of little things I wanted.alas so much stuff so little time and space.

    1. Mary, I agree! I love those garden entry things! I couldn’t remember the names of them, but I just searched and they’re arbors! They actually don’t look very expensive. Although, I really love the vintage ones. But I just found some on Wayfair: http://www.wayfair.com/Arbors-C1854898.html

  7. Cute stuff!! Thanks for sharing the pics and info! What city is this in? I live in Lexington, NC, but not close to the coast… I love going to the beaches!! My family is headed to Folly Beach, SC soon (near Charleston).
Thanks so much for sharing! BTW… I love the wooden sign and quote too!!

    1. Hey, Kelly! This is in the Outer Banks, which I think was Kill Devil Hills! How far is that from you?

  8. It’s a great place and I really enjoyed looking at the items but those were tourist town prices – at least to me. Hope you had a lovely vaca!

    1. LOL, they definitely were tourist town prices! LOL But still affordable compared to some places I’ve seen! I probably would have bought some of the vintage signs if they were a bit cheaper!

  9. I could have spent hours in there! Thanks for sharing such a great shop!

    1. You’re welcome, Ann! I know…I really wanted to spend more time, but I was with my mom and although she loves looking at stuff like that, too, whenever I am with anyone in stores like this, I always feel like I’m inconveniencing them, because I tend to want to stay long and look at EVERYTHING. Most people, after a bit, they’re like, “Okay. I’m done.” LOL. So I always feel rushed!

  10. That is a great shop. I hope you bought a few items to remind yourself of your vacation. I liked the one planter that made me think of a fireplace screen.

    1. Thanks, Debra! I loved all the planters! I did buy a couple bottle openers for cheap! 🙂 I’m going to use one in my outdoor patio makeover challenge so if we’re out there enjoying beer, we’ve got a cute place to open the beers! 🙂
