The Best Vintage Shop in North Carolina: Class and Trash Review
A couple weeks ago a reader sent me a picture of an awesome headboard she had found at a vintage shop in the Outer Banks, North Carolina called Class and Trash.
Funny, because I headed down there myself for a week-long vacation with 13 members of my family. And know that I couldn’t wait to check out this place!
While the kids and my family were doing Laser Tag, my mom and I snuck out and headed over to Class and Trash to check out the treasures we’d find.
I knew I wasn’t going to spend a lot of money, and we really didn’t have a bunch of space to buy something that would have to be hauled home.
But you know I can’t go on vacation to a new area and not go and see what amazing stuff there was to be discovered! It’s kind of been my M.O.: always check out local thrift shops for awesome finds!
When we walked up, I was immediately drawn by the vintage and rusty signs and metal plant stands displayed in front and throughout the store!
I think $58 was reasonable, although more than I would pay at my favorite thrift store. I was really drawn to this plant stand for my Outdoor Overhaul Patio Makeover Challenge but decided to not buy it. I’ve been on this new kick to only buy the things I absolutely love, and I wasn’t convinced that I loved the plant stand.
I decided that if I really want it, I’ll buy it on my way home in 2 days (if it’s still there!).
When we walked in, we were greeted by this rusty ‘ole display of awesome bottle cap removers and coat hooks!
Inside, I saw even more cute iron plant stands! This one was another favorite! I have
I’m not a dog lover, but I was really digging this (pitbull??) bottle opener for $4!
I decided to buy two of them–one for my patio and one for my kitchen! 🙂
There were so many awesome vintage signs, literally!
I really wanted them all. 🙂
They weren’t that expensive, around $58. But since I didn’t know exactly where I was going to put it, I decided to skip them. But I loved looking at them!
This reclaimed work bench was awesome! I’d love to have this in my workshop!
This bench was really cute. If it was made for the outdoors, it would be a great gardening bench!
This washtub was awesome! It was a little expensive for me, around $200, but wouldn’t this be cute in a garden?
I wanted some of these metal letters, but at $14 each, they were a little expensive. I would have paid for them, but I didn’t know what I wanted to spell! LOL I’d love to screw some of them to a board and put them up on the patio!
HELP!
What would you spell?
We’re leaving on Sunday and I still have time to buy some things!
Isn’t that sign great!
If only I could transport this home….wouldn’t this be amazing to put in your yard?!
I’m so glad that my reader clued me in to Class and Trash in the Outer Banks! This place is a treasure chest of awesomeness. If you’re ever vacationing here in North Carolina, you should definitely make it a priority on your “must see!” list!
We’ll be headed back in 2 days, so I’ve got a day to think about something I want to buy!
So what do you like the most the stuff you’ve seen? What should I buy before I leave the Outer Banks?

Loved the larger pergola/wire arch. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be
Love those little dog bottle openers!
Great name for a store.
I thought so, too, Melanie!!
I would have bought the green planter outside the store. It was lovely!
I know, Brenda! I was considering going back, but when we were passing by, it was closed! It was super cute!
oh my goodness that is a shop I would spend literally hours in — if were to pick one thing to buy I think it would be the 2nd planter the one with 2 holders of course I’m a sucker for planters!
Yep, that was a cute one, Vickie! I would have bought that or one of the other ones, but I couldn’t decide. When I drove past it on the way home, it was closed. I’m sure I’ll head there again and you know this will be on my list again! 🙂
What a fun shop!! I think I would get lost in there! lol
Did they advertise all those words as reproductions? They do not appear original to me at all.
Hey, Debbie! They didn’t advertise them one way or the other. You think they weren’t original? They were pretty rustic looking!!
That’s the thing about anything vintage or antique today. Many reproductions are so well done it is almost impossible to tell. The clues for these, for me, is there are multiples. At least two “beach”, two or more “vintage”, Mr&Mrs- using that in wedding planning- that’s a recent thing not vintage (back of their chairs, place settings, etc). Funky? I don’t think so… For me, it’s not the condition, it’s the provenance or the perceived lack thereof that makes me question their authenticity of being vintage. Hope that all makes sense. 🙂
oooh we are headed to the outer banks in August ! looks like I have some shopping to do !
As for the letters you could spell out the name of your town (if its short enough) or one of your favorite destination spots
YAY! Glad to hear you’re headed there! What part of the Outer Banks? We were in Rodanthe. I thought I would get bored, but it was sooo NOT boring. It was relaxing! Yes, stop by this place for sure! Where are you driving from?
embarrassed to say I have no idea what part ! headed there from the Boston area. Hopefully I will get a chance to treasure hunt !
what a great treasure shop. Thank god I don’t live near that shop. I did love those garden archways.
and everything else too for the garden or porch. Glad you have had such an enjoyable time on vacation.
Thanks, Betty! I wish I lived close to this shop! I would love to peek in there often to see what they’ve got. I bet they get a lot of turn over! We’ve got some pretty awesome things in this area, but I usually stick with the thrift stores and the ReStore. I may have to hit more vintage-specific spots. I like finding unique stuff like this!
Oh my goodness, what a fun shop. I would have loved the arches and the planters. I love that sort of vintage, open-air planter. I don’t see those sort of things out here on this coast. Sigh.
Hey, Alys! Oh wow, are they that rare? Crap–I definitely should have bought some then!! LOL
That looks like it was an awesome shop!! I would have had a tough time leaving all of those treasures behind. Next vacation you’ll have to haul a little trailer behind you 🙂
It was so cool, Melony! I really wish they had shipped. I would have contacted them afterward about some things I had found. Next time I would have more space in my van. My mom was riding back with me, so I didn’t have space in my van for anything! 🙁 All the luggage was in the trunk part, and with the seat occupied–I couldn’t lug anything, really!
