Oh, dreadful……..We’ve got a leaking pipe. But, the good news, is that it explains the smell I was smelling when I came into the house! The piping behind the wall/closet/ceiling to the right of the foyer is where the leak is occurring. The other night when I went over there to pick out a Silestone sample the contractor had left for me, the house was all quiet while I was there. And I heard a tap-tap-tap sound. Crap. Not only was it hitting the 1st floor, but it was dripping down to the basement, too. And you could tell that it was falling a long ways because of the loudness of the basement drip. So, Detective I was, and hunted down the problem, and came up with the conclusion that the smell I smell when coming in is either the dreaded “m” words, or simply wet drywall. What a relief to have discovered the problem, instead of just trying to cover up the sent with candles and what-have-you.
So, after getting the settlement company to put a rush on the Home Warranty, they are sending over a plumber in the morning. WHEW….At least it will be fixed. I fear they will try to pin a “pre-exisiting condition” on me. I am also anxious we’ll be told we have to repair the whole plumbing, at the expense of more than $5,000. I fear they will tell me that the drywall damage inside is extensive and needs to all be replaced.
HOWEVER….I am a positive person. And I know that whatever the problem is, it can be replaced or fixed. Might cost some money, but hey, someone somewhere will know how to fix it. And we’ll be one step closer to moving in and getting settled. I can’t wait!!
Oh, but uh…….So tonight I am waiting for this guy to come do a quote on the replacement basement door (to compare to Company A), and while waiting, I decide to tear down the wallpaper in the hallway off of the garage.
The ripped-up laundry room. Wallpaper coming down (easily, might I add….). Lots of work to do in here.
We decided to tackle the dining room wallpaper tonight………
I’m sure at some point this chandelier light was “the shit.” But wasn’t that 30 years ago….???
This paper isn’t coming down easy at ALL.
It looks horrible!
Those poor walls……
Our fellow neighbors! Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph.
Off they scurry!
