This post has been sponsored by One Day App, but all opinions are my own!
Let’s set aside thrift stores and room makeovers for a moment, shall we?
Let’s get a little personal.
After all, there’s a face behind Thrift Diving, and every now and then I like to share a small piece of myself so that you know I’m not a robot pumping out cookie-cutter blog posts. 😉
Hello, my name is Serena, and I’m a hoarder.
Then again, if you’ve been a reader of this blog for long, you already know that :). Aside from hoarding furniture and craft supplies (like any lover of DIY–you know you do it, too), I also hoard family photos and home movies.
I have this intense desire to chronicle “LIFE” so that in the end, I have something to pass on to my children: pictures and videos of who we are as a family, how we change, and what we all become.
I can’t tell you when my love of home movies and pictures started, but I can tell you these two things:
1) I currently have at least 30K – 50K pictures and home movies spanning across my desktop, laptop, tablet, and two external hard drives (that are nearly full).
2) As technology gets easier to record LIFE, I find myself even more fascinated with capturing each moment so as not to forget or miss a thing.
My New Favorite One Day App!
I’m always looking for new ways to capture my family, and I believe I have found something that’s just a bit cooler and faster to use than my traditional cell phone camera and DSLR.
It’s called the One Day app (download it for FREE on your iPhone or Android!) and I’ve been using it to record raw moments of truth from my family. I’m talking in-your-face confessions! Okay, maybe not that dramatic. But it’s pretty monumental to get my camera-shy husband talking about his favorite moment with me in the nearly 20 years we’ve been together! Pretty heartwarming stuff!
My husband said his favorite moment was back in 2005 when we traveled to Anguilla together and hung out at a reggae artists’ beach-front property with him and his crew. I was pregnant at the time so I remember it being a very boring, dry, fruity drink-free vacation. LOL
My favorite moment was in Amsterdam when we inadvertently ran into meth smokers who invited us back to their place and we had no clue that they wanted to invite us to do drugs with them! Definitely not!! We high-tailed out of there as quickly as we could! We still laugh about that wacky event to this day!!! Watch and see. 😉
The app comes pre-loaded with lots of questions to ask your spouse, kids, parents–whomever!–and new featured questions are updated monthly. This month, of course, is all about Valentine’s Day, so what better way to get connected with my husband than to ask him about our favorite moment together. Honestly, I had no idea! I’m glad I asked! 🙂
What My 5-Year Old Had to Say!
After I started fiddling with the One Day app and recorded my husband, I couldn’t wait to try out the app with my kids! My 5-year-old middle son is a riot! Truly. The things that come out of his mouth are hilarious. Here’s the Valentine’s Day question that I couldn’t wait to ask him, LOL!
Once the question was selected, I just pushed the big red button to record!
Here’s what my 5-year old had to say about why people kiss! LOL
For those that may not understand a 5-year old that just loth a toooooth, he said:
“Because when you kiss, you get married and get a girl, it’s kind of embarrassing because when you kiss and other people watch you kiss, that’s not fun. And it is crazy. And when you kiss, you get kids, and you can tell your kids what to do. And it’s going to be so cool!”
Awwww….my sweet baby!
Anyhow, once you’re done recording, save it and just create a brand new story. Here are some of the fun Valentine’s Day stories (and others) you can film and upload to social media, email, or even download directly to your phone:
- Describe true love.
- If your marriage was a movie title, what would it be called and why?
- Your perfect day with your spouse would be….
- Describe your worse Valentine’s Day story.
- Describe the first moment you saw your better half.
- When did you first know you loved your better half?
- What do grown-ups do on Valentine’s Day?
- Who is your valentine this year?
- How do your parents show you they love you?
- Describe the first moment you saw your better half.
- Vacation Memories
- Family questions (e.g. About Mom, About Dad, About Grandma, etc.)
It’s as simple as just selecting the category and hitting record!
No Editing Software Needed! (YAY!)
This has to be the biggest “win” for the One Day app! On my YouTube channel, it’s time-consuming uploading video, adding music, and adding title pages. To have an app that seamlessly adds those things is pretty awesome and saves me a bunch of time!
Cuts out the stuff I don’t like to do (editing) and allows me to do what I enjoy most (sharing the movies with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter!).
“Describe Your Worse Haircut or Hairstyle”
And I couldn’t help but answer this question! I even included an AWESOME picture to go along, so that you don’t eeeeeeeever have to wonder what that boyish Afro of mine looked like! 😉
Ummm…yeah, this was me in January 1989, at age 12. OMG……I can’t believe I’m showing you this! 🙂
Whew! Thankfully, women age like fine wine. This is me today at 37 years old!
Looking Forward to These Features
For this to be a free app (download it here), it a great value! Some people have suggested a premium paid app so that you can edit or add your own questions and have a greater selection of music so that there’s variety in music on the videos. Someone even suggested being able to remove the logo and add a date instead. Until some of those features are possibly added, enjoy the free version and capture as much as you can from the people you love the most.
What About YOUR Family?
Do you love taking pictures and movies as much as me? How many pictures and videos do you own? Take your best guess!
Download the freeOne Day app today (get it for Android phones HERE) and start capturing your own family’s moments now, because in the end, it’ll make great for entertainment when you’re age 95. At the very least, great blackmail material when your kids are 16. HA! 😉
