If you’ve got kids or grandkids, you know the scenario during a road trip: “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Arrrreeee weeeeee theeeerrreee yeeeeetttt??!”

The only way to really soothe them is with electronics, right? Something that’s going to stimulate their little minds long enough to give you a reprieve from the incessant questions.

The other thing that keeps them occupied are food and snacks.

But electronics and food don’t mix!

Little greasy fingers smearing the screen, with the catastrophic threat of a spilled drink on the display is enough to cause anxiety for any parents! ๐Ÿ™‚

This summer I’m planning a couple of small road trips with the family and electronics are the last thing I want to worry about while we’re on the road!

The theme this month over at RYOBI Nation is “On the Road.” I knew instantly what would save my sanity (and our electronics!) during a road trip: DIY tablet holders for the car headrest!

With my sons’ little hands freeย while they watch movies on the tablets, there’s less chance of damaging it. Plus, it keeps them entertained for hours at a time to make the trips go much smoother!

The DIY tablet holder for the headrest simply straps on very easily and is adjustable.

Before your road trip, kids can pick their movie selection, buckleย in, and–BOOM!–you’re on the road and they’ve got something to keep them occupied for at least a good hour and a half!

And no threats of spilled water or greasy chips on the tablet, either!

  1. That is a brilliant solution to sticky fingers while in the car. I plan on taking the kids to my in-laws’ lake house this Summer. As for the tools, they would come in handy for some projects I want my husband to tackle, like some storage for our bathroom.

  2. I pinned this idea on 6/8/17. Thanks Serena.

  3. My road trip already happened. I just returned home on Tuesday. Went from Florida, spent a week in GA, a week in TN, then attended my son’s college graduation in Indiana and returned home directly after that. Whew! It was a long trip. I like your creativity with the tablet holder, but I’m not sure it would work with my kids…I like them to be buckled with the seat belt going over their shoulder, which I think might prevent them from being able to reach the tablet. Not sure though. I think I would make some storage solutions for my home using the Ryobi tools ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Love this idea! Such a cute little tablet holder, too-the map is such a creative touch! I think I have an adult that would appreciate this for herself honestly, LOL. Looks like your model is enjoying it, too! ๐Ÿ™‚ Some of our roads are so bumpy I might worry about it popping out… could always put on a super thin bottom piece for bumpy roads/clumsy kids! Ah, I love how you think about ways to fix a problem, rather than just telling the kids no snacks. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Summer road trips are the best, aren’t they?? We used to drive a few hours to go to the zoo when I was a kid… now I’ll be driving my parents up to look at mobile homes and historical houses in July. ๐Ÿ˜€ Lots of mom-and-pop restaurants and hiking at parks planned along the way! Unfortunately, it’ll probably be our only summer road trip this year.
Is that a pneumatic nailer? Dude… I just put up all the trim in this living room (I refuse to take pictures because I mismeasured and left gaps and need to rely on my best friend, caulk ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and the hardest part (after figuring out the compound cuts, ugh) was hauling that dang air compressor home!! Did it by myself, weighed at least 50lbs (I carry this weight in animal feed bags daily, I ain’t kidding, AT LEAST 50lbs and compact) just about gave myself a heart attack, and O! it was only a rental, so I’ll have to repeat the miserable process when I move into the other living room (don’t ask about our weird floor plan, LOL) and start patching the drywall, painting, putting up trim, etc.
All that to say: I’d use it to put up trim. And build a little chest of drawers I guess. ๐Ÿ˜€
Thanks for the giveaway and tutorial! I don’t know if they have it where you’re at, but here in Iowa, if you stop at an older rest area, they normally have huge road maps you can take for free. If you’re not willing to pony up for a map at the craft store, that’s always an option!

    1. Also, oops, pinned today, 6/8. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. I plan to fo the longest garage sale road trip in August in search of geat DIY projects as well as the Michigan garage sale along Michigan Avenue. I also have a beautiful bed that I want to turn into a bench and the tools would be extremely helpful!

  6. I pinned this on June 7thy with my kitty sitting on my lap nudging my hands as I type. I have one road trip this year to Grand Rapids Michigan where I will be taking 11 gymnasts (and their parents) to the State Games of America. Very excited. It will just be my daughter and I in our car, and she is an adult.
I am currently working on my staircase. I ripped off the carpet and cleaned the steps and then have applied 2 coats of primer to everything. I am doing the side molding in gloss white enamel. The backs of the steps in the enamel and the treds themselves in gloss black. I purchased a lovely set of decals with words of love and support to put on the backs of the steps. I am very excited to finish this and see how nice it is going to look.
I have so many thing that I have to do around he house those tools would be amazing to have.

  7. Sherry Robertson says:

Pinned today (June 7). No road trips for us. Hubby to ill to travel. However, I will be busy building some kids chairs and garden stuff with these new tools. lol
