I think subscribing to so many DIY sites is destructive to my self-esteem……I’ll elaborate in a moment.
First, let me say that, up until several months ago, I didn’t even know that there was a whole blogsophere of DIY’ers (do-it-yourself-ers) out there, spray painting their furniture, crafting their hearts out, posting pictures of their homes and bragging about their projects they’ve accomplished. I’ve been blogging for the past 5 years, but only personally about my family, and I have been blogging my poetry, as well as my goals and resolutions.
But it wasn’t until a year ago when we moved from here:
….that I began to blog about our house.
This new (well, built 1973) house just didn’t feel like home. And it was time to make this house feel like home. The house needed a LOT of work to it (can we say, wallpaper removal???), like bedroom and kitchen updates. Documenting the progress felt completely natural, and I couldn’t wait to jump in.
I stumbled upon so many DIY sites (check my sidebar for all the ones I subscribe to!) that I’m love with, and, coupled with my newfound discovery of Pinterest), I’ve got a stack of “Project To Do’s” ten miles long! It’s become my passion! Buuuuttttt…………
…..I’ve got kids…..3 beautiful boys (and no, I do NOT want to try for a #4 girl, thank you very much) who love to leave toys everywhere, crumbs behind, and clothes all over their bedroom floor……
……I’m a full-time working mom (well, I’m on maternity leave right now, but only 3 short weeks left!)…….
…..I’m a wife (married 6 years, together for 16–how’s THAT for making me feel old?!)…….
So why is it that these DIY decorating site bloggers, who are supposedly everyday people just like you and me, have so much more time on their hands to crank out craft after mesmerizing craft?? And why do their homes look so freakin’ gorgeous and pulled together, not even a crumb out of place, when I can’t even keep crumbs off my kitchen floor, much less think about DECORATING to make my home look inviting and appealing?!
Does anyone else feel this way when reading DIY sites?
These DIY ladies are super-talented, and I am learning soooo much from their creativity! I can only hope, however, that I can sharpen up my Superwoman skills and learn to not only keep my house clean and organized, but to be able to pull together some mad crafting and decorating so that I can stop being embarrassed when visitors come over to a house riddled with half-completed projects.
One project at a time……
