I used to joke that when I “finished” my house I would need to go and buy a new house to work on because what else would there be left to do in the house??! I mean, it’s not an uncommon joke amongst DIYers.

But it’s apparent from these pictures below of my basement office that’s not the case. At all.

Because what happens is that you make over a room…then four years pass…and you’ve since “destroyed” the room again and now it’s time for 30-Day Room Makeover, 2.0! HA!

That’s right–lots can change in four years: all the paint has since been scuffed…old floors have gotten more worn…and clutter has choked the pathway like clogged arteries.

2019 is right around the corner next week and it’s time to kick off our next 30-day Room Makeover Challenge to finally finish a room that’s been begging for a decluttering makeover!

So why don’t you join me for the 30-Day “Junk-Free January Room Makeover Challenge”?!

My Cluttered Basement Office

So for this challenge, I’m tackling my basement office again. My basement office makeover “BEFORE” and “AFTER” looked great when I completed it in 2014, but a lot can change in four years. Piles of clutter grow…the floor looks ever worse…and I’m just ready for a comforting and relaxing basement office for working on projects.

BEFORE

It typically doesn’t have a huge pile of furniture like this. It’s only because I was doing some basement waterproofing and repairs (which you can watch the tutorial on how I repaired it). I needed things to be cleared away from the walls, so everything was stacked on top of each other. It looks really messy now!

Those big ‘ole fluorescent lights aren’t helping, either! I would love some recessed lights!

There is still a big hole in the basement ceiling from where the fridge leaked down into the basement, from years ago, which was never fixed, so that will be addressed, too.

And this clutter!! If I haven’t used it in the last year, it’s out of here!

I’m still undecided on what I’m going to do with this pool table that I converted into a craft table. Should it stay or should it go? It’s helpful for holding crafts and materials and hiding things underneath. But it would be nice to have something that is mobile and can be put away when not in use.

This floor is going to be replaced, as well. Actually, I’ll just be going over it with some vinyl sheet tiles that look like wood flooring! I can’t wait to see what I’ll do with it!

I’ve got some outdoor furniture that will be perfect for this basement. And a new rug, too! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!!!

I want to feel like this is my little apartment down here (sans bathroom, sadly). Right now, it just looks like a cluttered work area! Not the look I’m going for. 🙂 Everything needs its place and if there is no place for it, then it doesn’t belong!

I remember when my basement office was clutter-free!

Now, it’s just a hodge-podge of this and that, with materials everywhere. I really need to learn some rules of cleaning up after a project and putting everything back where it belongs!
