The thrift store is a dangerous place. I’ve decided that I just need to stay away unless I am prepared to splurge.
I went there on Saturday to just “drop off a few donations,” happy with the fact that it’s just a curbside drop-off. No threat of dragging yet another piece home, right?
Then I saw these sitting on the curb when I pulled up.
Incidents like this never happen.
(Oh, yeah it does. How quickly I forget…..). LOL
Looked like someone had just dropped them off. They hadn’t even been processed or tagged yet. The guy collecting donations wasn’t going to sell either of them to me, but I insisted that they give me a price on the shorter longer of the two. I wasn’t that interested in the taller one. All I could think was, “OMG, didn’t I just buy those mod chairs yesterday?! How can I justify coming home with dressers!?”
But…..then they quoted me a price: $24.99 for this one and $14.99 for the taller one. SERIOUSLY???!! How could I walk away? It would have been a shame in the thrift diving community:
I put on my best poker face but inside I was thinking, “These people must not realize what gems they’re selling!” This could easily have gone for 5 times that, if not more! If my money wasn’t going to support the good of the community, then I would feel guilty, like I was pulling one over on these employees.
I ended up buying BOTH, since they were so cheap, but I’m probably going to sell the taller of the two (anyone live local in Maryland and want to buy it? Email me!)
Imagine how gorgeous this piece will be once I strip it down and turn it into a lovely dark walnut color! I can’t wait! As messy as a job stripping wood is, I absolutely love it.
Even More Good News – I’m In HGTV Magazine!
This month I was featured in HGTV magazine for a Budget-Friendly Blogger Style spread! I’d kept quiet about it until I actually saw it in print. But yep, cat’s out of the back now!
But what’s ironic is that this mid-century buffet HGTV magazine asked me to use in the design of my blogger budget space looks so similiar to the one I just scored at the thrift store, doesn’t it?
You see how this mod dresser was destined to be mine? It’s perfect!
FYI, here are the mod chairs I found the other day. Read more about them HERE.
I guess it’s all about the mod furniture right now, huh?
Are you a fan of mid-century furniture?
