I’m really feeling frustrated about not being moved in yet. I’m sort of tired of this in-between-home feeling. But, I’m glad we have a place to stay while we get the house ready. It would be nice for it to be “done” before we moved in– paint in all the rooms, kitchen redone, windows done (although that won’t be for a few weeks), etc. But right now, I’m feeling like there is so much to get done, and too little time.
Our schedule as it’s been lately is driving over to the new house once the kids get into bed, and then we can work from 9 p.m. until usually 3 a.m. The other night, we were there (no kidding) until 4:30 a.m. We walked in at 4:45 a.m., when hubby’s mom was up and getting ready for work. I knew I would only get to “nap” (which is what it was, essentially) for a couple hours before the kids were up. Sure enough, that was the case.
Only 1 hour and 45 minutes of sleep for me!
Oddly enough, I functioned fairly well. And that night, we went back to do more work (we rented a wallpaper steamer from HD!). We worked from about 8:30-ish to 2:30 a.m. Thankfully I was able to get 6 hours of sleep last night, which is usual for me. And hubby napped in the living room while I steamed wallpaper in the kitchen.
So as it stands now, here our progress:
- Removed wallpaper in the foyer, formal living room, dining room, (most of) the kitchen, upstairs hallway, laundry room, and baby’s room.
- Remove the rest of the wallpaper in the kitchen, start on our bedroom, and remove the paper in the 2 full baths and 1 half bath.
Funny story……..My oldest son and I went over to introduce ourselves to our neighbors to the right. She is an Indian/Muslim. She’s got 5 kids, the youngest age 7. We talked briefly, but someone “wallpaper” came up and how we were removing it. She said to me, “Oh, no! Wallpaper good! It’s nice. You keep wallpaper! Very easy to clean. Gets dirty, just wipe! He [hubby] did not remove yet??” I told her it’s pretty much almost all gone, and she adamantly tried to convince me “wallpaper very nice!” HA! Ad there I stood, thinking, “Oh, no, lady, that shit should be BANNED!” I bet she wouldn’t say that if she spent one night with US, would she?! LOL
Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I am hearing a “tap…tap…tap” leak, and the plumbers couldn’t find it, nor could they find any moisture or anything (see
holes–er–pics, below). So now I am going to have my plumber check out the upstairs bathroom, behind the wall, to see if the leak is coming from there. I suspect that the leak is coming from the gutters (which need to be cleaned and could be leaking standing water inside the house somehow), or could be a gap between the lower roof and the siding, which could be dripping in. We shall see…….
Anyhow, here are some pics, of course!
