This post is brought to you by The Home Depot Style Challenge. #HomeDepotStyleChallenge
Earlier this week I mentioned that I had participated in The Home Depot Style Challenge.
I admit that I was a little worried about this challenge.
If you know me, you’d know that I never decorate for holidays.
But when someone challenges me to do something, I usually jump in with both feet. Especially when it comes to something related to my blog. 🙂
So when The Home Depot contacted me and asked if I’d like to be challenged to decorate my front door and porch for Halloween, um–sure, why not??
I’ve got little kids and I thought it would be fun for them to pretty-up the front with some Halloween decorations!
Here’s what my front door looked like before the challenge. It pretty much looks like this 365 days a year. :
I know….hard to believe, right??
But I’m converted! I’m converted! Here’s what it looked like when it was done!
I can’t tell you how cozy this feels! Why haven’t I been decorating my front door all these years before?!Here’s what it looked like when it was done!
Anyhow, here’s what it looked like when it was done!
The funny thing is that to participate in this challenge, everything had to be decorated by early September.
Yes-early September! Months before the final reveal went live.
That means I’ve had Halloween decorations up for weeks already, and we’re still weeks away from Halloween!
I can’t imagine what my neighbors said. Although I did try to “warn” the few neighbors that I talked to weeks ago when I started spreading out the faux spider webs and string the shrubs in candy corn lights. 😉

And of course…you’ve got to see how happy my little ones were once they saw the decorations!
I think I’ve started a new tradition here in The Appiah Household!
My husband, thankfully, didn’t complain. He’s not a holiday decorator, either. But he’s softened up over the years and pretty much doesn’t say too much when he sees me trying to make the kids happy. WOO HOO!
How to Make a Huge Black Halloween Spider
When you go check out my guest post on The Home Depot blog, you’ll see instructions on how to make this awesome, huge black Halloween spider!
Here’s a shot of how I planned out the spider, with a wooden body, cut out with a jigsaw.
ut you’ll never guess what I made the legs out of……
I’ve always wanted to do something with them from the moment I cut down my sons’ old crib.
(Remember I turned the rest of my sons’ old crib into a coffee table?)
But I still had some crib slats left over.
(This crib has come in handy for many things, including being a ladder when my boys were little. LOL!)
Now the slats are being repurposed into spider legs for DIY Halloween decor. Love that!
Anyhow, go check out the whole tutorial and see the cute “AFTER” pictures with my boys enjoying their new front porch!
