Hi, I’m Serena Appiah, owner, and blogger at, a blog about decorating your home with paint, power tools, and thrift stores! But it’s not just about decorating your home–it’s about flexing your creative muscle and helping you learn how to become more confident and excited about being creative. Here at Thrift Diving, my goal is to inspire you to be creative, one project at a time!

For these journal decorating classes, I’ve teamed up with Terra Dyer Gill, a local Artist & Creative Consultant. She owns & operates her own social painting company, and in her 5+ years teaching, has helped over 8,000 people discover their inner artist & natural creative expression. Terra draws on her wide background in Environmental Anthropology, Sustainable Design & Health Coaching, to empower & support her clients – individuals & organizations alike.

She and I will inspire you to learn how to paint, become more crafty, and you’ll walk away feeling excited about your new creating adventure!

You’ll also get to walk away with your very own hand-painted or hand-decorated wooden journal that can be used for a:

DIY Painting Classes: Paint Your Own Wooden Journal

For this class, everything will be provided for you! We will supply the wooden journal for you to assemble, and Terra will walk you through how to paint a gorgeous cherry blossom tree to adorn the front. We will also have stencils and other craft materials if you would like to experiment with your own cover designs!


  • A freshly cut wooden journal (made to fit standard 8.5″ x 11″ paper) made of birch plywood 
  • Craft paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Waxes and top coats to protect your newly painted journal
  • Gloves
  • Decorative materials
  • Stencils
  • Light snacks



  • How to paint a beautiful cherry blossom tree
  • How to stencil paint onto wood (optional)
  • How to assemble your own DIY wood journal
  • How to become more confident when you’re creating!


  • A $10 materials fee (cash or check)
  • An outfit that you don’t mind getting paint on!
  • Light snacks will be served, but please bring your own dinner, if needed
