What an awesome Memorial Day I had yesterday! First, I have to thank all service members and veterans for the work they do (or have done) to protect this country. The job is tough, and the outcomes can sometimes we quite grave. I have worked with service members both directly and indirectly for the past six years, and each year that passes, my respect for the job they do is compounded.
Okay, on to the frivolous, but fun, matters… 😉
Today was 50% off at the thrift store!!!
If you’d been a reader of this blog for any time, you know that holidays = 50% off everything = a MADHOUSE!
Everybody and “they mama” comes out for this joyous event, hoping to save some major cash. This is how it usually looks, and today was no exception:
I met up with my friend Jodi from The Glittered Barn blog (and with whom I share a vintage booth at Sweet Clover Barn in Frederick, Maryland).
She got there before me, and when I walked in, her cart was already piled up high! All I could do is wave and make a mad dash to the back, where I happened to find these awesome deals!
Mid-Century Modern Stools
I was disappointed that they appeared to be a pair, only to realize they weren’t. The one on the left was–OMG–just $5.00 after the discount, and much more solid, and the one on the right was $6.00 after the discount!
I know I vowed not to buy anything else due to space issues in my garage, but I believe these are going soon to my booth, soooo……justification earned :).
I swung one of them into the cart, while I lugged the other one clumsily to the front of the store to pay immediately.
No way was I going to allow the staff to just stick SOLD tags on them while I continued looking around. We remember what happened last time when this chair was stolen a few months ago, don’t we?….LESSON LEARNED: Lug To Car Immediately, Go Back In, Shop More.
Great Design, But Smelled Bad
I didn’t see a lot of great pieces there today (thank God, because my garage doesn’t have the space), but this one caught my eye. I didn’t buy it. It was only $7.00. A steal! It had a funky odor, though, and was particleboard…..TURNOFF.
The $7.00 Sofa
Jodi was in love with this $7.00 love seat (YES!!! I’m not kidding), and wanted it badly, but she had no way of getting it home. It was stuffed with down features. Can you believe it?? Well, if she couldn’t buy it, she may as well pose on it with her cute patootie daughter :).
Look at those claw feet!!
Ceramics That Feel Feminine
I did find some super cute housewares! For some reason, I have been finding these really pretty cookie jars, and have been drawn to them. Maybe it’s the color or the hand-painted designs. Who knows. But I found this one for $4.00. Last month I found another similar to it and sold it in my vintage booth. I almost was sad to see it go because it was so cute! I may decide to keep this one ;).
Vintage Ceramic Electric Tea Kettle
Oh, my…..this is my most exciting find of the day, actually! I found this cute little blue and white vintage ceramic electric tea kettle that’s small enough to fit on my desk at work!
Guess how much???
I was suspicious it wouldn’t work, but when I came home and test it….YEP! There are the bubbles from the water heating up on the electric coil thingy inside!!
I was curious how much these retail for, so I did a little search and found that someone on Etsy is selling one for $32!
I could probably sell this easily in my booth, but when you find treasures like this, you must hold on to them :). It’s too special and unique to let someone else enjoy it. LOL
Annnnd….I picked up this $1.00 plate, too. There’s something about blue floral designs that have been catching my heart lately :).
After thrift diving today, I came home for a family walk, and then got started back on a custom dresser I’m doing for a client. More on that later this week!
Overall, it was a fabulous day with fabulous weather!
