There is something so pretty about yellow and gray.
That’s what Laurie chose for her laundry room makeover when she signed up for my 30-Day August Upgrade Room Challenge. I think she’s inspired me with that wall color. I have never been able to find a perfect shade of gray. This may be just it!
Here are her results!
In Laurie’s Own Words
“The laundry room was chosen because my husband Mike was home at the tail end of some medical leave and he was getting bored. So I thought it would give him something to do to help me.
To transform the space we moved the washer and dryer apart so we could put a hanging rod between the newly painted cabinets that are now above each machine. We painted the walls a new color – Valspar Polar Star, a very pale gray color and our trim got a fresh coat of white. Mike built new stands for the washer/dryer which raised the machines a little higher. He added legs because I wanted them to look like furniture plus an added bonus is I can hide giant bags of dog food or a bag of charcoal for the smoker underneath either one.
We did away with our open storage and added closed storage with a BIG pine cabinet we found on Craigslist. I painted all the cabinetry, folding table, and the machine stands to match – Valspar Summer Morning. I shopped for decor at Hobby Lobby, a vintage market sale, and my favorite thrift stores. I repainted the bee art I found with the colors of the room. I also made new curtains from a fabric I found at my friend Amber’s quilt shop, Inspire! Quilting & Sewing.
We spent approximately $650 on this makeover. Our biggest challenges were finding 8 foot washer hoses and a cabinet large enough to hide all our stuff. Painting the walls and making the curtains were some of the easier things. Painting the cabinetry kind of fell in the middle. I am loving the “new” room. It is lighter and brighter and believe it or not more functional. It makes me smile every time I go in there!”~Laurie
I love this laundry room! I think you should always have tables in laundry rooms that allow you to hide things away underneath (neatly, of course!). Laurie, you rocked this challenge!
