Last week I put a call out to everyone to join my new 30-Day June Room Challenge. I was so excited about it because–finally!!–we’re going to harness the power of a challenge to get a room done!
I asked you to sign up here, and 33 of you did! I’m so stoked about that!!! (34 if you include me!)
Now, I know 33 doesn’t seem like a lot…….but when you think about 34 homes being prettied up…..34 rooms being transformed……34 potential gallons of paint….34 homes that will feel freshened and more organized….and 34 women (nope, no men signed up!) who are going to feel like Super Woman for finally kicking procrastination in the butt……that’s impressive!
So, to all 33 of you who were able to sign up…….
To those of you that wanted to sign up but just can’t swing the commitment due to busy schedules, no worries!!! There may very well be a “Looking Fly in July” Challenge ;). Or maybe a “Rockin’ DIY in July” challenge. Or some other creative name (I’m open to suggestions!). Plus, you can still get ideas when you follow along, or be inspired to do a mini-makeover on a room! 🙂
If you’ve stumbled upon this page and you still want to sign up, make sure you sign up no later than June 1st!
Getting Started: What You Need to Do NOW
So this is the week that you’re going to decide which room you’re going to do, and then use the linky below to post 1-2 pics of your space. Keep reading for more instructions!
STEP 1: Capture the Chaos!
Grab your camera and pretend you’re paparazzi. Take pictures of your room from every angle, every corner, every view. Capture the chaos. Why? Because this is the part we usually skip over when we want to jump right in! But if you don’t have any good “before” pics, the “after” won’t look quite so good. You will almost forget how disappointing the room was before you got your hands on it!
STEP 2: Pick a Winner (or Two)
Take up to 4 good shots that show your “before” room the best. The bigger the piles of mess, the better! (Trust me, the “after” shot will be that much more rewarding! Take shots of every angle!
STEP 3: Email Me Your “BEFORE” Pics!
Go ahead and email me your “before” pics to ThriftDiving at GMAIL dot COM. I know….you’re sort of embarrassed about showing people your space. Don’t worry!! We all have not-so-pretty spaces. I even started it off. We can join in the embarrassment together!
STEP 4: Do Your Research!
You probably have some idea in mind what you want for your room, in terms of color or style. Spend this week going to Home Depot (or wherever you buy paint from) to pick out paint colors, scanning Pinterest for some ideas, and get ready to take action!
I stopped off at Home Depot tonight looking for the perfect shade of lavender or soft pink. I can’t decide! I want my laundry room to be an oasis of pretty pastel, since I spend so much time there! Here’s what I grabbed:
STEP 5: Read My Post: “10 Steps to Finishing a Project”!
Some time ago I posted an article titled “You Have No Time or Energy for DIY: 10 Steps to Finishing a Project.” I think it’s one of my better articles because it includes a lot of info. It’s a step-by-step guide to getting started on a project, such as making over a room. It includes tips on a great app to use to track your “TO-DO” list, and making sure that you have a budget in mind before you get started, etc. You should definitely check it out as you gather supplies
and tools this week!!!
WHAT TO DO NEXT: Email me up to 4 pictures of your “BEFORE” pics, and I will upload them to the blog on the June Room Challenge Page.
Let’s do this!!
