When I had my “day job,” I counted down the hours until the end of the day when I could leave. Sometimes it couldn’t come quickly enough.
This weekend, however, as the blogger spokesperson, I danced the night away in the parking lot of The Home Depot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for their bi-annual Girls’ Night Out, stoked to be part awe of working with RYOBI power tools, which I’d probably do for free if money were no object.
It was a fabulous event!
When they say that Girls’ Night Out is like one big party……they weren’t kidding! About 1,000 women came to rock out with Tom Joyner, the host for the evening (the Tom Joyner from The Tom Joyner Morning Show radio program).
Just watch this video of the action! These were the tame moments. (I wish you could have seen the Soul Train line…….).
My job was to do a 15-minute power tools demonstration with my favorite power tools, and to show the women how to put together a hostess tray kit that came in their bags.
These are the hostess trays I made and decorated at home and stenciled with my Silhouette Cameo, then used these for stage props during my presentation. I loved how they turned out! (The one on the left I made from scratch. The one on the right was from the Home Depot kit).
I reeeeaaallly wanted to inspire these ladies to know that power tools really aren’t as scary and intimidating as they may feel. I wanted them to have fun putting their trays together. (Some had never used a power drill before!). I wanted them to know that with just four tools (i.e. the power drill, circular saw, nailer, and sander), they could start doing DIY projects around their home. And that they are creative. They just need to believe it.
The Unexpected “Uh Oh”s!
The horror that my cell phone’s alarm started chirping “Bath Time!” during the LIVE broadcast (and I had to discreetly root for my phone in my smock to silence it)……. YIKES! lol. If you watch the replay, you can hear it chirping towards the end of the video. Oh my….!! LOL
…….And let’s not forget that I couldn’t, for the life of me, get that stubborn hostess tray kit to join properly without shifting around during the demonstration! LOL. After fiddling with it for a moment, I finally declared, “Okay, it’s giving me problems….Let’s move on!”
Nothing is perfect. Definitely not LIVE performances!
Behind the Scenes Pics
Everyone on the RYOBI team gathered for one last touch-base before the ladies started filing in.
I have to say that I love partnering with them! Everyone is friendly, professional, and makes me feel like I’m part of their family. 🙂 How awesome is that?!
Women started lining up a couple hours before the event started. When I saw them, I silently squealed, This is really happening!
Before long, the huge white tent in the parking lot of The Home Depot quickly filled, and women were ready to party!
Watch this video to see some of the dancing going on at the event!
This is how huge the audience was:
And there was little ‘ole me on stage presenting to all of them!
It was soooo loud in there, even while presenting. At one point, in my second presentation of the night, I had to ask the audience, “Can you all be quiet?” My friend couldn’t believe I had asked them that. But hey–you have to command the attention, right? 🙂
After my presentation, Denise from Organized Home, part of CocoaFab TV, wanted to interview me. We had a hard time talking over the loudness! I think my ears are still ringing from the event. LOL
Watch the Replay!
Many of you probably missed the LIVE stream. No worries! You can see the replay of my presentation HERE.
And We’ve Got BIG HAIR!
I’m always memorized when I meet other girls with BIG HAIR. I think Rita from CocoaFab, is the winner here. LOL
Power Tools Winner!
For those of you that registered to watch LIVE online, you were entered to randomly win a power tools kit from RYOBI. There were 40 of you that entered, so your odds were good! A big congrats to Nancy for being the winner!
This was such a fun event! I can only hope that I will have another opportunity to participate again in the fall. I’ve heard the next Girls’ Night Out will be in Alabama. Hopefully I’ll see you there! 😉
