Meet Gwen. And her laundry room. Gwen signed up to complete her laundry room as part of the 30-Day June Room Challenge. When asked why she wanted to make over this room and what her plans were for the room, she told me:

I’m handicapped and need my “stuff” I used to store in cupboards I’d climb to reach now on our old Pier 1 bookshelf. My boxes and stuff is so messy. Believe it or not I know where everything is, but I want it to look better.

Then I want to get everything out of the closet that is old tax stuff from 2001!!! I used to store so much in this closet and now its messy yet not functioning for accessible storage. I’d like to put a premade narrow shelving piece in for candles, small decor pieces that I can easily reach.

Finally, I want all my craft paints also either inside the closet or in the Ikea boxes I bought for the bookcase. I really don’t like the boxes nor colors I chose but I figure it will look neater than it is now. I don’t want to decorate the room. Just make it look like it did before I moved this bookcase and random boxes of junk shoved all over!! If I get this done in a month I will be so very very happy!!

Well, she did it! But first, let’s have a look at Gwen’s laundry room:

I asked Gwen:

What was the biggest “challenge” of this challenge? What stumped you? Also, what was the “easiest” part?

Finding time for Curt [husband] to help me with doing the construction parts because I can’t hammer nor drill items.
Stumped me: I like to get as much for my vision as I can when I see it. My hubby likes to go for a project at a time…
Easiest: coming up with my quirky fancy yet casual design inspired by things made from my Dad’s old U shirts and darned socks.

What piece of advice would you give to someone wanting to tackle a room or space?

“Being part of a group helps hold one to a schedule and to the commitment. Seeing the before photos helps me not want to have a hoarder space!!”‘

Has this Room Challenge impacted your life for the better? How so?

Oh it has impacted me for the better!!! I loved the gentle guidance from Serena. So kind and encouraging. I liked how our group was not out to compete but to encourage each other that we are able to do so much more than we think we can do:-)
