Are Brentwood Home Pillows Worth It?

The new pillows were provided by Brentwood Homes.

If you’re like me, buying new pillows has consisted of going to a discount store and buying whatever $10 pillows they had stuffed in those metal pillow contraptions in the pillow aisle.

Here at Thrift Diving, it’s always been about doing and buying as cheaply as possible. That includes buying pillows.

But when Brentwood Homes reached out and asked if I would do a review of their pillows (expensive pillows, I might add…), I was curious.

First of all, by the looks of it, we needed new pillows: smushed, stained pillows.

But after receiving the pillows and getting some new pillowcases and sheets, our bed started looking much better!

Brentwood Home (which features healthy, natural bedding products) had sent a couple different pillows and they were slightly different.

The Helena Pillow

When I first got the two Helena Pillows, the thing I noticed immediately was that it was filled with something…..weird.

Remember–my cheapie pillows from the discount store are stuffed with batting that smushes flatter than a pancake after a few uses!

These pillows, however, had 100% natural latex ribbons inside organic cotton fibers.

How They Felt

I actually liked sleeping on these! They were soft, not too firm, and had the right amount of stuffing.

I also liked that they were pesticide-free. I buy a lot of our food organic if I can afford it, but I haven’t bought a lot of organic things for the home, such as bedding. It felt nice sleeping on something that wasn’t unhealthy and full of chemicals.

The Carmel Pillows

They also sent two of these pillows to try out, the Carmel latex pillows, all wrapped up.

One thing I immediately noticed was that the inside 100% natural latex was like SKIN!!

I’m not kidding you.

I took them to the kids and was like, “Close your eyes! Now reach inside here and tell me what you feel.”

(They weren’t as impressed as me, but hey–they’re kids. They don’t know “cool” when they see it.)

The other thing I noticed is that these pillows were super bouncy. It felt like springs inside the pillow! I could see how people that like firm pillows would love these.

When I compared the Helena and Carmel side-by-side, it was noticeable how different they were in fluffiness.

The Carmel 100% organic, too, but was flatter than I liked. It’s the type of pillow that molds to your head and shoulders.

If I had to choose between the two, I’d take the fluffier one. I like to siiiiinnnkk into my fluffy pillows. LOL

I’d love to use the Carmel pillows as back supports if I am reading in bed!

These pillows won’t lose their shape at all!

What About Cost?

I’ll admit that I’ve never spent a lot of money on pillows, but I should. They’re something we use nightly, so why not get the best we can afford? I’ve noticed that as we get older, we wake up with more aches and pains.

Not that early 40’s is old….but we’re not “spring chickens” anymore. I don’t spring out of bed like I used to. Getting a good night’s sleep has become more important. 😉

I think when you’re doing a bed refresh or making over your whole room, don’t forget to budget for the cost of upgrading your pillows. It’s definitely worth something to consider since they last so long and won’t squash on you!

A New Bed Soon…?

So funny how when I look at this picture of my bed with its new sheets and pillows, all I can see is how it sinks in the middle. HA!

But don’t you worry–a bed makeover is in its future!

Now that the pretty lavender master bathroom is complete, I’ll be on the hunt for a nice secondhand bed.

At least I’ll have some great new pillows for it! 😉

  1. wow, these look amazing! I buy those cheapo pillows that end up flat as a pancake, so these look like heaven.

    1. LOL, Haley, that’s how my pillows usually turn out, too! After sleeping on these, I’ve found that I’m more fond of the softer ones and not the latex ones. Those are good for sitting up in bed and needing to be propped!

      1. Yeah. We’ll like isn’t like those more too. Added them to my wish list.

Just wanted to say that you can build your own King size bed!!! I know you can do it!!! 🙂 I’ve seen a few you tubers build their beds and it’s cost effective. If they can do it, I KNOW YOU CAN!!! Now I do realize a second hand one (if in great condition) may be less expensive but these Youtubers spent less than $500 on their beds and I saw one that upholstered hers. Just wanted to encourage you. You’re my inspiration.
