Ahhhh…..life has gotten so busy.
Last week I was in Raleigh, North Carolina for my very first (of several!) home shows! Read the home show recap here!.
I realize that the busier I get with home shows and traveling and other side projects that come up, my blogging suffers a little. I start missing the thrift store. Missing projects. And missing you guys!
Anyhow, I’ll be gone for most of this month, so the time in between trips, I like to squeeze in some projects and, of course, thrift diving for some good stuff!
So today after dropping off my kiddies at school and daycare, I decided to stop by the thrift store in search of a fish bowl.
I know…totally random thing, but I’ve got this cool upcycle idea for Halloween and I need a fish bowl to create it. LOL
Thursdays are usually 25% off for Value Card members at Value Village and those days are hit-or-miss because the competition is stiff, you guys.
But imagine my surprise when I walked into the back and right there in all its glory is this lovely French Provincial dresser.
Typically, dressers this nice have already been scooped up by some other vulture out on the search for a good deal.
But nope–no SOLD tag!
And you’re going to hate when you see this price tag.
Just add that 25% discount and we’re talking $40 MAX for this amazing dresser!!
At first, when I saw it my eyes lit up, but then the rational part of my brain kicked in that said, “Now, Serena, where ya gonna put that thing? You know you ain’t got no room, girlfriend!”
But My Mother-in-Law Does!!
Hubby’s mom’s dresser is jacked up. Literally falling to pieces. He’s been asking me for months to keep an eye open for something for her, but I hadn’t seen anything that sparked this level of joy.
This was perfect!
But still…I almost walked away.
If you could feel how heavy this dresser is….and how long…you might understand why.
I stood there having nightmares of having to pull out my minivan car seats and van seats (ugh)….lugging this baby all the way home…finding a place to shove it into the garage until I can paint it this week….
It was a chore just thinking of about the hassle of hauling. (Does that ever happen to you?)
But something this good………and the fact that my mother-in-law saw the picture and liked it….now I had to get it.
A lot of times you’ll see dressers that are all disgusting on the inside, but this one was in great condition inside!
And the surface imperfections can easily be covered up with paint.
Once I made the decision to buy it, I stood there guarding this thing with my life, waiting for the store guy to come off his break and write up a ticket before someone else got to it!
And while I was waiting, guess what I found??
OMG, a pogo stick!!
Can I tell you that I have been wanting one of these for years?? When I was a kid, I used to have a Super Man pogo stick. I wanted my boys to experience the fun of pogo sticks, but not to “new” prices.
I literally squealed like a child at my luck! It was only $5.00, too!
Heck–if the kids didn’t want to jump on it, it looked like it could support all 172 pounds of me. HA!
When the kids got home, I couldn’t wait to test it out for them. It’s a wonder I didn’t hit my head on the doorway! LOL
Watch Me Jumping! 🙂
Once the guy got back from his break, I asked him to write me a ticket and I paid and left for home to go remove the seats and come back later this afternoon.
But before I left, I did find just the type of fish bowl I was looking for. Hopefully, if I can pull off a great upcycle, this will be converted into a cool pumpkin candy dispenser for Halloween!
The thrift store didn’t have a bunch of other stuff, thankfully. I usually like to find a couple of gems. Too much and I start getting greedy. LOL
Pretty cool ironing board, but at $29.99–no thanks. Although those metal legs, loved the shape of them!
Anyhow, when I came back, the guys hauled it out to my van.
I was expecting to see some gross stuff underneath of it, but surprisingly, it was pretty clean!
It looks like a piece that had been well-cared for.
Ahhhh…..the beauty of having a minivan.
OMG, what would I do without it??
I think the best part of this experience is when I brought it home, hubby didn’t complain. 🙂
He was actually thankful for my find!
Normally, he would shake his head and complain to me about all the crap I’m lugging home. But I’ve been good lately. I don’t bring a lot of stuff home. But since this is for his mama, you can best believe he’ll support it. LOL
I’m hoping to get that done this weekend, at the latest, and post it next week!
It will be an early-early-early birthday gift for her!
Isn’t it gorgeous?!
It looks very similar to the the French Provincial desk I refinished a few years ago!
I’m probably going to do the same shade of a soft gray with white! It’s such a pretty combination, isn’t it?
You’ll get to see it next week.
I’d like to finish it before I leave for San Diego next week for 5 days for a blogging conference (FinCon 2016)!
So what do you think, guys?!?!
