You know what my wish is?? To finish a room!!!!!! With all this wallpaper removal and such, I really feel like we’re living in a crack house. LOL. All these surfaces with scrapes and brown spots of missing drywall surfaces, and old, dried pieces of wallpaper scrapes glued to the floor, etc. Although I know we have more to do,… View Post
I’m really feeling frustrated about not being moved in yet. I’m sort of tired of this in-between-home feeling. But, I’m glad we have a place to stay while we get the house ready. It would be nice for it to be “done” before we moved in– paint in all the rooms, kitchen redone, windows done (although that won’t be for… View Post
Totally excited to get a cabinet similar to this shade installed next week….hopefully with some Silestone!!
Oh, dreadful……..We’ve got a leaking pipe. But, the good news, is that it explains the smell I was smelling when I came into the house! The piping behind the wall/closet/ceiling to the right of the foyer is where the leak is occurring. The other night when I went over there to pick out a Silestone sample the contractor had left… View Post
It’s yet again almost 3 a.m., and hubby and I have been once again ripping down wallpaper. So rewarding to see our house taking shape!! The baby’s room…..Check out that pattern. How could someone at some point in time ions ago decide that that stuff was hot?? A lovely close-up. Hubby working hard while I snap away 🙂 But first,… View Post
Here are some of the pictures from our progress last night. I sooooo wish I had the energy to do something tonight, but to think of driving over to the new house (15 minutes), then do “stuff” and drive back (another 15 minutes), makes me even more exhausted just thinking about it. I’m really ready to move in, but the… View Post
Did I forget to mention that Rudolph and all his buddies trampeeze through our yards every night?? I kid you not. And to my disbelief (amazement?? dismay?? confusion??) my lovely neighbor, Lisa, FEEDS the deer each night! Supposedly puts out a bucket of apples each night, to deter them from eating her plants. In the meantime, last night we were… View Post
NEGATIVE! Well, at least this is what my little test kit told me from Lowe’s. I don’t understand why some say those tests aren’t very accurate. Well, I guess I can see– if you are testing the outter-most layer of something, which may be lead-free, it doesn’t mean that you’re lead-free if you haven’t tested the layers below. I’m fairly… View Post
And guess what hubby and I are doing? Well, eating “dinner” and unwinding after spending 4-5 hours at the new house, ripping down wallpaper. OMG! We totally didn’t foresee taking on such a tedious project at 10 p.m. on a Friday, but somehow, it just happened. And there we were, in the hallway upstairs, soaking the walls with DIF concentrate… View Post
I have to give thanks for my good buddy, Lamarr. (Shout out!!) Thanks for giving a sound ear and solid advice to this new single-family homeowner when I needed it. His basic message was to slow down and not take on too many projects right away. Right now, we don’t know our house. We’ve barely been in there long enough… View Post
I’ve decided to do some lead testing in the house. It was built 1973, and with the wooden windows, as well as the wallpaper I would like to remove, I think it’s best we get a test to see what we’re working with. We also have 2 young kids. And last but not least, it will help determine what sort… View Post
This morning I had a knot of anxiety and stress in my gut. This isn’t usual for me. I’m one of the most easy-going people I know 🙂 But these are unchartered territories for me: single-family home ownership. And really, with any home you buy, your costs are always going to be at least 25% more, because you will want… View Post
Must.Renovate!Must.Replace! Day #2 is over!! And I would like to say that I got a lot more done than I did, but with all the people coming by, giving estimates, along with details cleaning, well, 8 hours goes by pretty quickly. I’m sad to think I had to go to WORK tomorrow, but I have NO more vacation time… View Post
Febreeze and Oust are hopefully going to be my best friends. Our new house smells a bit MUSTY. It’s got me afraid there’s some undiagnosed mold problem somewhere, or maybe it’s coming up through the basement, which we had known was musty. Day #1 of single-family home ownership: BLEACH! PINESOL! Anyone else have any recommendations?
It’s a done deal, baby! We just closed on our new home this afternoon!!!!!! 🙂 Unfortunately, my husband is acting like the world’s biggest butt, who can’t stand to see me smiling big and being happy for what transpired, but I guess I’ll deal with him…… ….On to wallpaper removal!!!!!! 🙂
