Hey, guys!! In case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted in nearly–gasp!–3 weeks, it’s not because I have mysteriously dropped off the face of the earth. LOL. I’ve been sooooo busy. After working all day at my “9-to-5” job, then coming home to care for my 3 ‘lil boo-boos and getting them into bed, the only time I have to post and work on projects is 9 p.m. until whenever.
Used to be that “whenever” was 1 a.m…..maybe even 3 a.m. on a high energy night! But lately, the lack of sleep has been causing me to wake up confused! The other day I drove to work exhausted after only 3 hours of sleep……parked my car…..closed my eyes…..and literally woke up 30 minutes later not knowing where I was! Has that ever happened to you? It’s very freaky! A couple times, I was confused about which day it was. I think my brain is screaming, “Slow down, Serena!!”
But, regardless, I’m still here, and thanks for reading my blog! And being patient when my life goes “haywire.”
Okay, so I do have some things I have been working on. Here’s what has been taking up all my time!
I Got Rid of Cable!
If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen me posting about this recently. So, yeah, I cut off our cable! Woo hoo! I was tired of paying for all those channels we don’t use! It’s been about a month now, and we haven’t died from no cable 🙂 I was tired of my family mindlessly flipping through crappy show after crappy show. Now, we’ll be saving nearly $1,000 this year and using alternatives to cable, such as Hulu Plus, Netflix, and I even got an affordable antenna to pull in local channels for free. I compiled all my notes and tips into a blog post on my other motivational lifestyle blog, Get Your Life Straight. If you’re looking for tips on getting rid of cable and using antennas, go check out the blog post. I’ve listed everything in 10 easy steps for getting rid of cable. Hope it helps you out!
Canon vs. Nikon??
Okay…okay….please chime in, my friends. I’ve been researching to death which new DSLR I should buy. What do you use? How much did yours cost? I know they’re both equally good, but I have been obsessing over which DSLR to invest in. Do you prefer Canon or Nikon? I think I’ve got my eye on the Nikon D7100 , but it’s $1,200 for the body, alone! Never mind lens/glass! I want something, though, I can grow into for the next 4-5 years.
Everyone says they are both equally good…..one website I read even said that Canon is to a Mac what a Nikon is to a PC, and that the Nikon is a bit more customizable, whereas Canon is more user/beginning friendly. Any thoughts on this?
I’ve got a nice point-and-shoot, but my work with Thrift Diving requires me to do a lot of videos for my YouTube channel (please SUBSCRIBE to my channel!), and I need HD and a mic option, which my current camera doesn’t have. And of course, I need stunning shots for my blog pics!
Selling Everything on Craig’s List!
I have this love/hate relationship with Craig’s List. It’s so easy to make some extra cash selling stuff, but–man!–getting people to actually show up is like trying to pull teeth! It’s like you have to practically give it away in order for people to come. Do any of you have similar experiences on Craig’s LIst?
Because that DSLR that I want is so expensive, I’ve decided to sell anything and everything around my house to raise enough cash for it: my used Phil & Ted stroller……..I’ve listed some furniture I’ve painted…..and I have tons more stuff to list.
But Craig’s List is full of crazies and scams! One guy responded to the ad for the wooden play kitchen that I refinished recently, asking for my address so he could “mail me a money order” and that he’d “add an extra $30 for me to hold it for him.” Smelled suspicious. Of course I didn’t send my address. A few days later, someone from another email address sent the exact same email about a money order! Um, scam alert!! Never accept a money order. Straight cash, baby, upon pick-up!
Hoping this pretty little thing sells soon on Craig’s List. $100 is reasonable, right?? Maybe I should refinish it first…? It’s such a cute vanity!
I’m Sewing Curtains!
Remember my thrifted craft room I was working on? I’m stillllll working on it. HA! Aren’t I slow?? I am in the midst of sewing curtains for the room, because after having it look like this for months and months:
….I realized that it’s time for me to stop having that side of the room be so ugly. The other side looks cute and pulled together, though! Can I get props for that, at least? 🙂
Here’s the fabric I am using to sew the curtains. I found this picture on Pinterest and fell in love with it a while ago! The pin was for curtains on someone’s Etsy page, but I hunted the fabric down myself and ordered it to make my own curtains instead. The fabric is Mengei Bristol/Natural by Premier Prints and is only about $8.00 per yard on BuyFabrics.com.
Hopefully I’ll be done the curtains soon so I can move on to painting this $40 sewing cabinet in my craft room back there in the corner, and hang pictures on the wall. So many things to do to just FINISH a room! Jeez!
Last But Not Least….I’m Going to DISNEY!
Isn’t it a shame I have 3 kids, and I have never been to Disney World? It’s expensive! My friend suggested she and I go with our kids, so I allowed her to talk me in to it 😉 We’re going in December because it’s the only time our kids will be out of school, and it’s going to be expensive and crowded. UGH…..Guys, I need your “CHEAP TIPS” for a Orlando Disney World vacation! Fly or drive? It’s a 13-hour drive from Maryland to Florida. Stay on the property or OFF? Help! Leave a comment below and share your cheap tips!
So What’s New With YOU?
I bet your life is as hectic as mine, huh? What have you guys been working on lately? Do you also struggle with finding enough time to “get it all in”? I’m seriously trying to manage how to raise 3 kids, while working full time, while trying to grow a successful blog, PLUS get in my necessary “me crafting and creating” time.
And THANKS for being a reader of my blog! I sincerely appreciate it! 🙂
