Okay. It’s time to get real. Very real. I’m about to show you pictures of my family room. Brace yourself, my friends. Because it’s not pretty. It’s actually very messy, and leaves much to be desired in the way of decor. I won’t make any apologies. I haven’t focused on this room in the whole 4 years we’ve lived here (except for when I painted the brick fireplace). Aside from that, this room gets very little attention.
Before my 30-Day Room Makeover Challenge starts, I decided to spend yesterday doing a “mini epic mess makeover” so that when January rolls around in a couple weeks, I’ll be ready to jump into the decorating part without having to focus much on the cleaning part!
Yes, my friends… this is a very candid shot of what my house looked like yesterday before getting started with my “mini epic mess” makeover: cushions in disarray, new vacuum cleaner box splayed on the floor. And yes, dust and dirt everywhere!
AFTER it was cleaned
SIGH…..this was under my sofa. And to think that hubby recently had the kids clean under the sofa! Looking at this, you’d never be able to tell. Or else hubby’s idea of “clean” and my idea of “clean” are two separate things and he never did it properly. LOL. Either way, it was sooo messy!!
An embarrassing close-up. YIKES!!
To use the Eureka SuctionSeal tools, you have to keep the dial on “Tools” for getting into crevices. When I wanted to use it on the floor, I had to turn the side dial from “Tools” to “Floors” so the suction would change….
….and to vacuum on the floors, I had to move the dial at the bottom from “HIGH CARPET” to “BARE FLOORS.” The plates raise and lower against the floor maintaining suction and seal without scattering debris. That was the problem I had with my old vacuum cleaner, but not this time. It actually works very well!
The Eureka SuctionSeal 2.0 uses a wide tube of air with minimal bends and twists that allows air to move freely across a shorter and more direct path. This means better cleanup for ME!
Once all the leftover food particles and desk were vacuumed up, my 3-year old, Kojo came behind me with the mop. So cute!
We have a little Charlie Brown tree. I know, don’t laugh! LOL. I haven’t even gotten a skirt for it yet. Or much decorations, either! Most of the bulbs are plastic, but we have a few glass ones. My 3-year old accidentally knocked one off. But with the Eureka, I just sucked up the mess with the strong suction instead of running for the broom and dustpan like I usually do!
I also made the kids clean out their toy container so we could donate all the things they don’t play with anymore.
That space beside the sofa went from this:
Less toys spilling over, and without all the dust and dirt.
When all was said and done, this was how much dirt I collected from ONE ROOM. Yes, you guys…one room. Pretty nasty, if you ask me.
It’s easy enough to empty it out. All you have to do is push the little button on the side and it empties right out in the trash.
BEFORE cleanup and makeover
The reason why my house is always so messy: my cuties that act like my living room is a jungle gym playground!
The most beautiful part is THIS CORD!!! I know….it’s probably not that revolutionary, but I hate how my old vacuum cleaner required me to wind up the cord by hand. Just push the gray button on the Eureka SuctionSeal and the cord winds up automatically. Ahhhhh….. Life is easier now.
I really like this vacuum cleaner. It’s makes my life easier by now having to pull out the old school broom and dust pan. It gets into all the time crevices much better than a broom, too.
Let’s have another look at how this room is cleaning up nicely:
A dusty corner of the room to pile stuff we didn’t use….
….clean, dust-free, and ready for a makeover in January! I’m planning on getting a new door, getting rid of that glass table hand-me-down, and make build built-in bookshelves there or put a bigger desk. Not sure yet! And new rug, seen rolled up there, waiting for it’s unveiling. 🙂
Now that the floors are all clean, Ohene thought it would be a nice place to relax with the iPad. LOL
Update: December 2015
Woo hoo! Finally the room is done!
