This here is my bedroom. You know, that bedroom that was covered in horrible wallpaper and looked like something from 1973. Oh, I’m sorry, this house WAS built in 1973…. lol.
Anyhow, that wallpaper was one of its dirty little secrets. Another dirty little secret is that my bedroom is right over the garage and feels like a freezer at night in the winter. I’m talking “all-the-cold-air-just-coming-right-up-under-our feet” cold. It kind of sucks. And I wish that we could afford to get carpet in at least some of our rooms so that we wouldn’t have to suffer ice cubes on our toes when climbing out of bed. But some people it’s crazy to wish for carpet when you’ve got hardwood. I beg to differ!
When we moved into this house, it was all hardwood, which we thought was great. I mean, that’s what your Realtor tells you, right? When we moved from our condo, we had carpet up until the months before we sold our condo. We put in hardwood because it was “more desirable” to buyers. But the truth is that it wasn’t more desirable to me! I missed our carpet! And I honestly still do miss it.
There is something about the coziness of carpet that you just don’t get to experience when your feet are striking cold, barren wood. LOL. Plus, our house is a bit dark (because of the trees around it), so having light-colored carpet would make it look a bit more bright and pretty, I think.
So what do you guys think? Do you prefer hardwood floors, or is carpet king? How many of you are in the market for new carpet?
Well, carpet is more than just a beautiful addition to your home. Having carpet in your room has many benefits besides looking great. Did you know that carpet provides thermal resistance? In colder climates, carpet can actually retain warm air longer, which can decrease your heating bills. This energy conservation benefit is just one of the great reasons to choose carpet as your flooring choice.
Of course, there are aesthetic reasons to choose carpet for your home. With thousands of styles and colors, carpet might just be the ultimate choice to personalize your living space. Carpet can work as a neutral foundation, or even be the focal point of your room. With bold colors and patterns, you can even get a little exciting with your carpet choices.
For homes with children, carpet is the best flooring choice. When those curious crawlers become wobbling toddlers, having soft carpet can help prevent injuries due to slips and falls. The padded benefits of carpet make it ideal cushioning for the little ones. Of course, carpet has a little work involved to ensure its lifespan, but with regular cleaning, you can be confident that your carpet will last a lifetime.
When the time comes to choose a new style of flooring, consider the many benefits of carpet!
Don’t get stuck like me, with cold floors that leave you scrambling for the wool socks in the winter! And choose something that you’re going to feel comfortable living with for many years. Carpet is a big investment, so choose something you’re still going to love and is going to be attractive in 7 – 10 years.
Okay, so I know I am biased towards carpet, but what do you think? Do you prefer carpet or hardwood flooring?
