The Best Vintage Shop in North Carolina: Class and Trash Review

A couple weeks ago a reader sent me a picture of an awesome headboard she had found at a vintage shop in the Outer Banks, North Carolina called Class and Trash.

Funny, because I headed down there myself for a week-long vacation with 13 members of my family. And know that I couldn’t wait to check out this place!

While the kids and my family were doing Laser Tag, my mom and I snuck out and headed over to Class and Trash to check out the treasures we’d find.

I knew I wasn’t going to spend a lot of money, and we really didn’t have a bunch of space to buy something that would have to be hauled home.

But you know I can’t go on vacation to a new area and not go and see what amazing stuff there was to be discovered! It’s kind of been my M.O.: always check out local thrift shops for awesome finds!

When we walked up, I was immediately drawn by the vintage and rusty signs and metal plant stands displayed in front and throughout the store!

I think $58 was reasonable, although more than I would pay at my favorite thrift store. I was really drawn to this plant stand for my Outdoor Overhaul Patio Makeover Challenge but decided to not buy it. I’ve been on this new kick to only buy the things I absolutely love, and I wasn’t convinced that I loved the plant stand.

I decided that if I really want it, I’ll buy it on my way home in 2 days (if it’s still there!).

When we walked in, we were greeted by this rusty ‘ole display of awesome bottle cap removers and coat hooks!

Inside, I saw even more cute iron plant stands! This one was another favorite! I have

I’m not a dog lover, but I was really digging this (pitbull??) bottle opener for $4!

I decided to buy two of them–one for my patio and one for my kitchen! 🙂

There were so many awesome vintage signs, literally!

I really wanted them all. 🙂

They weren’t that expensive, around $58. But since I didn’t know exactly where I was going to put it, I decided to skip them. But I loved looking at them!

This reclaimed work bench was awesome! I’d love to have this in my workshop!

This bench was really cute. If it was made for the outdoors, it would be a great gardening bench!

This washtub was awesome! It was a little expensive for me, around $200, but wouldn’t this be cute in a garden?

I wanted some of these metal letters, but at $14 each, they were a little expensive. I would have paid for them, but I didn’t know what I wanted to spell! LOL I’d love to screw some of them to a board and put them up on the patio!

HELP!

What would you spell?

We’re leaving on Sunday and I still have time to buy some things!

I’m so glad that my reader clued me in to Class and Trash in the Outer Banks! This place is a treasure chest of awesomeness. If you’re ever vacationing here in North Carolina, you should definitely make it a priority on your “must see!” list!

We’ll be headed back in 2 days, so I’ve got a day to think about something I want to buy!

So what do you like the most the stuff you’ve seen? What should I buy before I leave the Outer Banks?

  1. Hey Serena! About being rushed… When my son was younger, he hated to go into a thrift/antique store with me. He said I took so loooong because I had to pick up everything and inspect it, sniff it, lick it and kiss it, before I set it back down! (Of course, an exaggeration!!) I told him I was giving myself the chance to fall in love with it…or not! LOL
Also wanted to say that I love your thrift diving posts! Thanks for taking the time to help all of us learn tips and tricks of the trade! What fun!!

  2. That is my go to shop when I’m visiting obx. When I went in May there was a beautiful door I wanted so bad but I had no room in the car. 🙁 I do love the metal planters as well. I’m not sure which direction you live from there, but they have a sister store in Richmond, Va in the Short Pump area if you are ever that way. And it’s got even more awesome stuff than the obx shop!

  3. Found you through Show +Tell linky party 🙂 You found so many great treasures at that shop! The planters make my heart go pitter patter 🙂 I spent a year in Charlotte and oh how I miss thrift shopping in the south. Never made it to OBX though.

  4. You do have the best thrift stores on the east coast!! Almost makes me want to move there . . . almost. LOL. The two things I liked best were the red garden bench and the chest that had the Vintage sign sitting on it. It would be such fun to make over that chest (but not for outdoors). I’d have a hard time deciding whether to paint or refinish. The bench would be great on a patio, if I’m ever lucky enough to have one, because I want to do some container gardening. Since you don’t have a lot of room to haul stuff this trip, I’d pick a planter or sign. I’m loving your patio/outdoor/home makeover. Can’t wait to see it finished!
