Because I am, too. And this isn’t a Christmas post.
Don’t get me wrong–I love this time of year! Doesn’t everything feel a little more…..special? Just knowing that you’re going to have some serious family time, and then the ringing in of the New Year…
And I love January 1, when it feels like the slate of everything you’ve done wrong the previous year gets wiped clean, and you’ve got an opportunity to start fresh and do better.
With that being said, as much as I love this time of year, I’m a little tired of all the Christmas home tours. So, you won’t find that here on Thrift Diving! 🙂 Sorry to disappoint the masses! :).
Maybe this weekend I’ll post a couple cool last-minute gift ideas, time-permitting. I’ve got a couple awesome gift ideas for things to do with Glo-In-The-Dark spray paint….But that’s another post ;).
Actually, what I wanted to talk about was where I want to take this blog for 2014.
And I want your feedback.
I was driving home last night thinking that Thrift Diving can be so much more than DIY. I know you found this blog because you came across a project or post I did and it inspired you or made you laugh (or you’re one of my friends and you’ve subscribed just to be nice. LOL).
But even though your love of DIY and crafting led you to this blog, you’re still human–with lives, and children, and other topics. Why not talk about those things sometimes, too, right?
So would you be turned off if I started talking about how I look 4 months pregnant and I’m not even pregnant? (Ha!)?
Because that’s my life right now. I just decided to join Weight Watchers again because I filmed this video on YouTube recently and when I saw myself from the backside, I though, “Whoa!! Okay–yeaaaah–um, that’s not cute anymore.”
And although that’s totally not relevant to my awesome thrift store finds, or my furniture makeovers, it’s me.
It’s what’s relevant in my world at this very moment, and sometimes, keeping all that pent up stuff sucks. Sometimes I want to write about what’s in my head and not just the project I’m working on.
Sometimes my project is me, you know what I mean?
I want to be able to talk to you guys about that, without worrying that I’m veering so far off topic that people start clicking the “unsubscribe” button faster than their Androids can load my blog post. *snicker snicker*
What Will Be the Same in 2014
OMG, furniture makeovers! You guys love them as much as I love doing them. Check out my gallery of projects over the past couple years. So no worries there, I’ll still aim to please in that department.
Thrift store finds!! We’re all addicted. What can I say??
Same silly ‘ole Serena… 🙂
What Will Be New in 2014
More personal posts, but not enough to drive you batty. I promise. Trust me, my life isn’t that interesting! 😉
Power tools! Yes, they’re intimidating, but oh-so-exciting. If you have no experience using them–join the club! Let’s learn together, okay?
Home improvement projects. My house is still so dated, like in the laundry room and the kid’s bathroom. Did you know the toilet in the kid’s bathroom is puke GREEN? True story.
Building furniture from scratch. If Ana White can do it, so can I. And you can, too. Let’s at least try it, shall we?
So what do you think? Are you game?
Any burning topics or things you’d like me to feature on the blog for 2014? Leave a comment below and let me know! (You know I read and respond to all comments, right?) 🙂
BONUS – Funky Friday!
Remember in a recent post I mentioned Funky Fridays, where I would feature something wacky from the thrift store (and invited you all to email me a pic of something funky, as well)? Well, last Friday I posted a frumpy pic of me wearing a hot pink polyester house robe–the ugliest thing I could find from the thrift store. Did you see it? You can find it on my Facebook page.
Here’s this week’s shot: a funky ’70s dress I picked up from the thrift store when I was in high school. LOVE THIS! It reminded me of a polyester dress I used to dress my Barbies up in. I hemmed it shorter, and have rocked it for many ‘a Halloweens as a “70’s Chic” outfit. It cost all of $3.00 from the Goodwill. And you know what?? It’s still in my closet, waiting for me to shed those 20 pounds of “my-baby-is-2-years-old-I-have-no-excuse-to-be-fat” weight.
This was in 2004, pimpin’ it for a Halloween Party, a-la-Foxy Brown style ;).
My bald hubby couldn’t resist the dread look for his costume. LOL
Happy Funky Friday! And a Happy Holidays to you all if I don’t see you until 2014.
(Did I mention I am going to Disney World next week?) 😉
